Serena leads the Wanderers, who live in the shadows and are the most skilled and the fastest people in this world, guardians of every crossing. Many say Serena is the strongest of the Three Greats — that she once defeated the other two in battle. And from her comes the only account of anyone claiming to have seen one of the Greats at all: a soldier swears he glimpsed her in the forest, close to the wolves.
One of the Three Greats
Serena is one of the Three Greats, the unseen lords of the valleys, held to be a spiritual leader. She embodies the creed of the Wanderers — the conviction that agility, silence, and mastery of the paths overcome both the sword and the wall. She guards the crossings of Vashrath and guides her own through the dark.
To swear Serena in the Faction Oath is to swear that faith, and to walk the shadows she protects. Her followers do not expect to meet her; they expect the paths to open, and take that as answer enough.
Known Ties
- Wanderers — the force she leads
- Heidr and Marcus Villas — the other two of the Three Greats, whom she is said to have bested in battle
- The Faction Oath — the rite by which the awakened may declare themselves hers
Mysteries
The soldier's tale of seeing her in the forest is the only sighting ever attributed to any of the Greats — and even so, it is the word of one man, without confirmation. Whether Serena truly is the strongest, whether she really defeated Heidr and Marcus Villas, or whether it is all a legend the Wanderers themselves cultivate, remains open.
Her origin and the true extent of her power are a mystery. In the valleys, only one thing is agreed upon: if any of the Three Greats walks among mortals, it is her — and if she does, no one will see her coming.
