Before the newcomer stands a tall man holding a parchment: Cassius, keeper of the official register. His is the Document of Entry — the parchment where the lineage, bearing, and distinguishing marks of everyone who crosses are set down and, above all, the name by which they will be known. "This name will echo through the realms," he likes to say as he closes the record.
The Name Made Real
Cassius turns the anonymous awakened into someone with an identity the valleys can recognize. Without his register, no stranger crosses the walls of Cripta. In a world where everyone arrives stripped of their past, the name lavished on that parchment is often the first thing a person truly owns — and Cassius treats the writing of it with the gravity of a coronation.
It is also Cassius who warns the newcomer of a hard truth of these lands: a side must be chosen. His words are the seed of the Faction Oath that follows, the choosing among the Three Forces that will shape everything after. Where Sirius makes sure the body is ready, Cassius makes sure the name is written.
Known Ties
- Sirius — the commander who receives the awakened before the register
- The Document of Entry — the parchment he keeps
- The Faction Oath — the choosing of sides he announces
- Cripta — the city whose entry he authorizes
Mysteries
Where Cassius learned the craft of writing and record-keeping, and to whom exactly he answers within the administration of Cripta, is not said. His own story — like everyone's — dissolves into the timelessness of Vashrath. The man who writes down every name that enters the realm has never had his own set down anywhere.
